Sandia National Laboratories is searching for a Postdoctoral Appointee in Nanowire Carrier Transport. This position will be located in our Albuquerque, NM facility. This is a temporary, full-time opportunity. Security clearance not currently required to start.
Department Description
The Nanostructure Physics Department conducts original research to establish the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials into microscale and macroscale systems and devices. It is one of eight Departments within the Physical, Chemical, & Nanosciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Department members perform discovery and use-inspired basic research in support of the DOE/SC Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) and other Sandia programs. CINT is a DOE/Office of Science National User Facility operated jointly by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories with facilities at both Laboratories.
Job Summary
A Postdoctoral position is available at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), focusing in the area of micro- and nanoscale device fabrication and thermoelectric property measurements of single nanowires. In this position, the postdoc will investigate carrier transport in single nanowires by integrating these structures into microfabricated platforms. The selected postdoc will conduct temperature-dependent thermal and electrical property measurements on semiconductor nanowires, from room temperature down to cryogenic temperatures, and assist in the development of analytical models describing the observed transport phenomena. Correlations will be drawn between transport properties and the atomic/defect structure of the wires using the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy facility at CINT. The postdoc will be expected to lead in the development of new scientific projects that will attract top-university users to the CINT facility.
Post Doc Hiring Program
Sandia’s Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist a line organization in meeting its mission objectives and to provide a professional technical work environment for the employee. The Ph.D. must have been conferred within one to 5 years prior to employment. These assignments are for a one-year period, with the option, at management’s discretion, to serve no more than 5 additional one-year assignments. Extensions of up to six years require employee’s manager approval. Six years or greater requires employee’s manager and HR VP approval.
Required
• Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated publication record in the area of micro- and nanoscale fabrication, and in temperature-dependent electrical and/or thermal transport property measurements of low-dimensional structures.
• Experience with electron microscopy.
Desired
• Substantial experience with standard microfabrication techniques, such as metal deposition, wet and dry etching, and contact photolithography are highly desired.
• Proficient with electron-beam lithography and possess a technical skill set that includes mask layout and design.
• Experience with modeling energy carrier transport is also desired.
