The University of Chicago’s Department of Surgery, Section of Pediatric Surgery, is seeking a full-time Research Associate (Assistant Professor) to lead research into congenital vascular and lymphatic malformations in pediatric patients. The primary activity of a Research Associate (Assistant Professor) is academic research in association with a faculty member or team. This position will oversee all aspects of lab management, scientific technological development, and operations; provide strategic leadership; serve as a liaison to academic departments, professional organizations, and administrative units of the University; manage operations, staffing, budgeting, and program development of the lab and help set strategic goals; train laboratory and clinical research personnel in research techniques and procedures; ensure compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates; write articles, reports, and manuscripts; prepare grant proposals; present research findings at meetings and/or conferences.
To be considered, an individual must possess the following qualifications prior to the start of employment: (1) a PhD from an accredited program in the biological sciences; (2) successful completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in a related field; and (3) a minimum of 3 years’ experience in angiogenesis or vascular biology research. Preferred qualifications include: a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality peer-reviewed publications as senior author; experience teaching and mentoring in the laboratory environment; and availability to begin employment during calendar year 2013. Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and includes a generous package of fringe benefits.
