Full Time The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be 32,375 to £39,132 per annum (inclusive of London Allowance).
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate in Computer Science to work with Dr John Dowell (UCL Computer Science) to investigate and develop adaptive user interfaces. The project is a collaboration between UCL and the BBC and will be based at the London Media Technology Centre, a newly formed research centre staffed by researchers from both organizations.
The focus of the project will be on exploring techniques and design concepts for adaptivity in user interfaces for media services. The project will develop a prototype adaptive user interface for a connected tablet device to augment television viewing (a so-called second screen companion device). The project will involve collaboration with television programme makers and an evaluation of the system in a substantial pilot trial. The Research Associate will contribute to the definition of the techniques involved, the development of the prototype system and to conducting the pilot trial evaluation. They will contribute to the publication of the work and will join in the research life at the UCL Computer Science department.
Funding for this position is initially available until August 2015.
A PhD in Computational Sciences or related areas is essential.
The Research Associate will contribute to the development of techniques and design concepts for adaptive user interfaces. Experience of user interaction research and the development of novel user interfaces is expected. Knowledge of intelligent computing methods and machine learning methods would be an advantage. An interest in collecting and analyzing interaction data from users of digital systems is expected, as is an interest in working with media technologists and programme makers.
