The School of Mathematics and Statistics has secured a new Australian Research Council discovery grant to develop statistical model building methods to integrate multiple -omics data with the aim to improve prognostic in translational medicine. We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work with Associate Professor Jean Yang and Dr. Samuel Müller on this multidisciplinary project.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics is a large and diverse school with research strengths in many areas. In addition, we have a strong applied statistics and bioinformatics group working on various aspects of applied statistics and bioinformatics research.

This is an outstanding opportunity to work with leading researchers across multidisciplinary teams on a cutting-edge research project that has potential for application in a wide range of life sciences, whilst developing your career in an exciting, emerging discipline.

In this role you will:
• participate in a research program developing methods in statistical modelling for vertical integration of -omics data
• develop and maintain R packages of developed methods
• disseminate research results through publication and maintenance of webpages.

To be successful in this position, you will have:
• a PhD, or must have submitted thesis prior to starting employment, in a relevant discipline, preferably statistics
• demonstrated expertise in statistical bioinformatics
• experience with at least two platforms of -omics data and/or statistical modelling
• strong programming and software development skills in R
• solid, general IT skills with experience and familiarity with Linux/Unix environments capability to develop novel statistical solutions to bioinformatics problems
• a willingness to assist researchers from other disciplines.

Availability to start within 2013 is required. Comprehensive experience with common online bioinformatics software and databases such as TCGA, Ensembl, UniProt, GenBank or BLAST will be highly regarded, as will familiarity with the application of bioinformatics to life science research.

This position is full-time fixed term for one year subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Further offer may be available subject to need and performance. Level of appointment will be commensurate with skills and experience. Some relocation cost support may be provided and visa sponsorship will be available if required.

Remuneration package: $92K-$99K p.a. (which includes a base salary Level A $78K- $84K p.a., leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
