Post-Doctoral Researcher

The Delaware Biotechnology Institute (DBI) at the University of Delaware is currently searching for an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to work on C. elegans epigenetics. The goal of the research is to understand the epigenetic responses of model animals exposed to altered gravity, with high relevance to human space exploration. This three year NASA-funded project will utilize a one-of-a-kind clinorotation fluorescence microscope to observe animal behavior in various rotation schemes, including microgravity simulation, and perform epigenetic analysis via chromatin immunoprecipitation and third-generation DNA sequencing (ChIP-Seq). Outcomes of this ground-based research will guide the preparation of follow-up studies onboard the International Space Station.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry or related field. Expertise in wet-bench C. elegans molecular biology & genetic techniques is required. Experience with whole C. elegans ChIP preparation is highly desirable. ChIP-Seq will be performed by the DBI DNA Sequencing & Genotyping Center using the Pacific Biosciences RS Single-Molecule Sequencer (http://www.dbi.udel.edu/core/dnasequencing.html). The position is available September 2013 and will remain open until a suitable applicant is chosen. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for an additional two years depending on available funding and performance.
