Grade 7: Salary in the range of £29,541 – £35,244 per annum

We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the new laboratory of Professor Michael Dustin, who recently moved from the New York University to the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford. You will be involved in research on basic immunological mechanisms of autoimmune disease with a long-term goal of translation to improved treatments.

Your duties will include developing expertise in the use of supported lipid bilayers for study of the immunological synapse formed by T cells and in lymphocyte culture, transfection and transduction methodologies to generate biological materials necessary for experiments. You may also need to liaise with researchers to assess and co-ordinate use of human tissues for research and be responsible for teaching experimental techniques to new laboratory members. You will also publish and disseminate research findings, maintain an up-to-date awareness of relevant publications in the area of research, contribute new ideas for research projects and adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols.

You will hold a university degree (PhD, or near completion) in a relevant science, possess previous laboratory or relevant theoretical experience, and have a high level of technical competence including experience with microscopy, cellular immunology, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics or molecular simulations. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential as well as advanced computing skills, the ability to work flexibly, independently and as part of a team. Experience with microscopy, imaging processing software and previous work with lymphocytes would be desirable.

This is a full time fixed-term appointment for 1 year in the first instance.
