POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW position is currently open in Dr. Claire Fraser’s laboratory at the Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS). The Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine is an interdisciplinary, multi-departmental team of collaborative investigators with a broad research program related to the genomics of infectious disease agents, human microbial metagenomics, and bioinformatics. The impact of the members of IGS on the field of genomics has been substantial, with more than 500 publications during the past 15 years which have been cited more than 30,000 times.
We have several projects underway that are focused on (i) the structure and function of the gut microbiota in Crohn’s disease; (ii) the interplay between the gut microbiota and the immune system following oral vaccination against enteric pathogens, and (iii) the impact of probiotics on the host-microbiome signalling. Our laboratory uses state-of-the-art genome sequencing to characterize the structure of the gut microbiota using 16S rRNA profiling and the function of the gut microbiota using RNASeq and metaproteomics approaches.
The successful candidates will benefit from a community of interactive research labs, bioinformatics programmers, and a variety of sequencing, and computational resources available at the Institute for Genome Sciences as well as a wide range of basic and translational research dedicated to improve human health at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a PhD in the life sciences, demonstrated experience in genomics or bioinformatics, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and enthusiasm for scientific collaborations.
