The postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the cell and structural biology laboratory of Daniela Nicastro at Brandeis University. Our laboratory uses a wide variety of methods to study the 3D structure, function and molecular mechanisms of molecular motors, cilia and other cytoskeletal assemblies, organelles and host-pathogen interactions.
A successful postdoc candidate should have a PhD in sciences and enjoy working as part of an active research team. While knowledge of structural biology methods (e.g. electron microscopy, x-ray crystallography) would be an advantage, applicants with other backgrounds (e.g. virology, cell biology, molecular genetics of ciliated model organisms) are also welcomed. However, it is expected that the qualified candidate enjoys biological imaging and will develop a deep knowledge of structural biology after joining the lab (expert training will be provided).
Brandeis is a liberal arts University characterized by research excellence (eight miles west of Boston). Our EM facility has a history of high-resolution imaging and offers an outstanding environment for cryo-EM and image processing (some technical details: 4 TEMs including Tecnai F30 and a F20, FEI Falcon direct electron detector, GIF, 3 plunge freezers, a Correlative Light and Electron Microscopy facility with high pressure freezer, AFS2, cryo-ultramicrotome, two confocal fluorescence microscopes and a Linkam cryo-light microscope station, and a computer facility including a Linux Opteron cluster with 370 processors).
