The AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP), pursues multidisciplinary research programs in basic and applied molecular virology, viral immunology, and retroviral pathogenesis.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an energetic, driven, and focused individual who can independently perform molecular biology and cell culture assays to develop independent research project. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will conduct research with Dr. Brandon Keele, Principal Investigator of the Retroviral Evolution Section, utilizing state-of-the-art sequencing approaches with nonhuman primate models of AIDS to address basic and applied research questions including viral transmission, dynamics and evolution, immune evasion, viral persistence and reservoirs.

Qualifications:


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Possession of a Ph.D. from an accredited college/university in a field related to biomedical research. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Possession of a PhD in virology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, or related discipline.
- Years of experience beyond the doctoral degree are not required; however candidates must have demonstrated ability to productively conduct scientific research projects in relevant or related disciplines.
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- We are seeking a highly motivated individual with prior experience working with retroviruses under BSL2* biocontainment conditions, familiarity with propagation of retroviruses in vitro, basic molecular biology skills including DNA/RNA extraction from a variety of cell types and tissues, and a general understanding of viral evolution and population genetics are desired.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (Word, Excel) is desired.
