AgResearch is a Crown Research Institute supporting New Zealand by delivering innovative research solutions for pastoral agriculture. We seek a post-doctoral scientist for our Forage Breeding Team, to research and model forage plant breeding strategies. This position has arisen due to a new initiative to accelerate the genetic improvement of temperate forage plant species underpinning New Zealand's pastoral production.
You will join a world renowned team breeding improved forages and developing enhanced breeding strategies; including Genomic Selection and application of next-generation genotyping platforms, principally Genotyping-by-Sequencing (GBS). The team comprises well established scientists with expertise in a wide range of disciplines, and works closely with producer groups and research and commercial partners, both nationally and internationally.
Your enthusiasm and "can do" attitude to plant breeding research, ability to learn new skills and excellent interpersonal skills will add value to our team. This is primarily a quantitative genetics and plant breeding research position, with strong linkages to the biophysical modelling team. You will:
1. collaboratively develop and implement quantitative genetic models for simulating perennial ryegrass breeding strategies with reference to grazing industry objectives expressed in biophysical and economic models
2. provide quantitative genetic support for Genomic Selection in forage species, and GBS approaches to genetic analysis
3. contribute to implementation of forage plant breeding programmes.
You will have:
• PhD degree or equivalent experience in plant quantitative genetics and/or modelling, preferably with experience in forage species
• proven track record and publications in a relevant science area.
