DTU Transport is one of the largest transport planning research units in Europe with focus on transport and logistics optimisation, transport modeling, safety aspects of transport, transport economics, transport behavior and socioeconomic impact assessments. The present position relates to transport optimisation, one of the research themes of the Department, which aims at the analysis and optimisation of transportation systems in all modes.
Responsibilities and tasks
The post doc is expected to work in the project “Mitigating and reversing the side-effects of environmental legislation on Ro-Ro shipping in Northern Europe,” funded by the Danish Maritime Fund. The main objective of the project is to identify and assess possible technical, operational, regulatory and financial measures for the mitigation and reversal of the negative repercussions of environmental legislation to the market shares of Ro-Ro shipping in Northern Europe. Specifically, modal shifts as a result of new sulphur regulations as of 1/1/2015 are expected and the goal of the project is to recommend measures to alleviate these shifts. The candidate will mainly work toward developing and calibrating a model that can evaluate possible modal shifts resulting from the application of sulphur regulations, including their impact on shipping routes profitability and repercussions on land-based modes. The main testing scenarios will come from the Ro-Ro short sea sector in the Baltic, the North Sea, and the English Channel where land-based alternatives are a real option.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. A PhD in transportation science, transportation logistics, maritime logistics, intermodal logistics, or equivalent, is required. Experience in discrete choice models, freight models, maritime logistics or other transport modelling is highly desirable.

DTU Transport is one of the largest transport planning research units in Europe with focus on transport and logistics optimisation, transport modeling, safety aspects of transport, transport economics, transport behavior and socioeconomic impact assessments. The department works closely with other transport research institutions nationally and internationally. One of the department’s objectives is to co-operate with the national authorities, different interest groups and private companies on various aspects related to the research topics at the department. This gives the department a strong relation to the applications of the research undertaken and gives the research a valuable operational angle. The department has been and is currently involved in several FP7 projects within e.g. modeling and impact assessment. The research section “Transport optimisation and transport engineering” (TOT) has for more than two decades been among the leading research communities studying maritime logistics problems. Furthermore, the TOT section is also involved in research in transport emissions, green logistics, optimisation of intermodal transport systems, transportation network design and intelligent road pricing systems.
