Anthony Nolan is a pioneering blood cancer charity and bone marrow donor register. Every day, we match incredible individuals willing to donate their bone marrow or blood stem cells to patients in desperate need of a transplant. Last year we helped find a match for over 1,200 people with blood cancer and other blood disorders.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Bioinformatics Scientist within the Anthony Nolan Research Institute and Histocompatibility Laboratories. You will be responsible for implementing the bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of next generation sequencing data using Pacific Biosciences SMRT Technology. This technology will be used as Anthony Nolan moves to embrace cutting edge sequencing technology for the HLA typing of patient and donor samples.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Bioinformatics (or related Computer Science courses). Excellent programming skills in Python and Perl are also essential. You will develop the bioinformatics pipelines required to manage the data generated on the Pacific Biosciences platform, and look to provide automated solutions for data analysis. You will also work closely with other bioinformatics scientists in developing analysis methods and where appropriate, develop novel methods and algorithms to address the challenges that arise. Previous experience analysing next generation sequencing data would be advantageous.
