A funded postdoctoral position is available to study injury repair and regeneration in the adult lung in the Peng Lab (profiles.ucsf.edu/tien.peng) at the Cardiovascular Research Institute. Following up on our recent Nature paper (PMID: 26436454) demonstrating the role of Hedgehog in maintaining cellular quiescence, the goal of this project is to determine the mechanism by which Hedgehog maintains quiescence and the effect of dysregulated quiescence on injury repair and tissue regeneration. Although the focus of our lab is on adult tissue regeneration, applicants with developmental biology background are strongly encouraged to apply. The project will use the sophisticated lineage tracing techniques we have established to modulate Hedgehog activation and prospectively characterize both the cellular and organ phenotype associated with Hedgehog dysreguation. The project will also use 3D culture methods to understand relevant signaling underlying epithelial-mesenchymal interactions coordinated by Hedgehog. Qualified candidates should have experience in maintaining model organisms with complex genetic background, cell and molecular biology as well as flow cytometry.
