A two-year postdoctoral research associate position, funded by the recently formed EPSRC UK Catalysis Hub, is available to work in the groups of Prof. Charlotte Williams on the synthesis and applications of various new polymerization catalysts. The project will involve close collaboration with Prof. Robert Raja, University of Southampton and with the UK Catalysis Hub researchers working at Harwell.
The post will involve the synthesis, characterization and testing of various new complexes as homogeneous and heterogeneous polymerization catalysts. In particular, catalysts for the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters/ethers and the ring opening copolymerization of epoxides/anhydrides/carbon dioxide will be investigated. The successful candidate must have experience of these processes. The project will be primarily based in Prof. Williams’ laboratories at Imperial College London, but will involve collaborations/meetings at the UK Catalysis Hub at Harwell and at other universities.
The successful candidate must have PhDs in chemistry, in the field of polymerization catalysis. Experience in synthetic inorganic and organometallic chemistry, polymerization catalysis and polymer characterization are essential for the post. In particular, the successful candidate must have experience of the methods and techniques of homogeneous or heterogeneous polymerization catalysis, ideally using high pressure carbon dioxide. Experience of polymerizations using N-containing heterocycles would be desirable.
The post is available for 24 months. Salary range: £33,860 – £42,830 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.
