Postdoctoral Associate
Job Description
Description:A postdoctoral associate position is available to investigate molecular mechanisms of gastrointestinal diseases. The project involves development and analysis of 3-dimensional intestinal organoids from iPS cells (see Spence et al., Nature 2011 470:105-9) derived from patients with known a genetic syndrome caused by N-Glycanase 1 (NGLY1) mutation (see Enns et al., Genetics in Medicine (2014) 16:751–758). Preliminary data suggests that mesenchymal-epithelial signaling in the developing intestine is disrupted by NGLY1 deficiency. The project will involve directed differentiation of NGLY1 mutant and wild type iPS cells into intestinal organoids, transplantation of organoids into immunocompromised recipient mice (see Watson et al., Nature Medicine 2014 20:1310-4), and characterization of cellular and molecular defects caused by NGLY1 mutations. We are looking for highly motivated applicants who have a strong background and hands-on experience in molecular genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, or a related field. Excellent collaboration and communication skills are required. Independent planning of experiments, writing manuscripts, abstracts, fellowship and grant applications, and mentoring students is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Education: PhD or MD.
•Preference will be given to individuals with a strong publication record and those eligible for NIH T32/F32 funding.
