The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.HEATHER S SMALLWOOD. Postdoctoral Fellow position(s) are available in the laboratory of Heather Smallwood in the department of Pediatrics at UTHSC. Our research program focuses on metabolic dysregulation initiated by infection. We seek to determine the molecular underpinnings responsible for these changes, validate their physiological relevance, and identify therapeutic windows and then test downstream intervention efficacy. To this end, we employ a multipronged approach utilizing proteomics, transcriptomics, drug screening, basic wet lab techniques for biochemical and immunological assays on in vitro and in vivo model systems.

Qualifications: Applicants with expertise and an avid interest in one or more of the following area(s) are encouraged to apply: metabolism, immunology, host-pathogen interactions, molecular and cellular biology, and epigenetics. Experience with large data analysis is an asset, but eager willingness to adapt and learn is also acceptable. Enthusiastic and collaborative scientists are welcomed into this group and department. Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and based on the prevailing wage for postdoctoral research trainees set by the U.S. Department of Labor.
