Postdoctoral Fellow - Vascular Pharmacology : Memphis, TN, United States

The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.ANNA N BUKIYA. A full-time postdoctoral position in vascular pharmacology is available immediately in the Dept. Pharmacology, College of Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Anna Bukiya on a project newly funded by NIH to study cholesterol-alcohol interactions in rodent cerebral arteries, with the focus on a potassium channel of large conductance (BK, MaxiK). Dr. Bukiya’s lab utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, including cerebral artery diameter determinations in vivo and vitro, patch-clamp electrophysiology, channel recording in artificial lipid bilayers, site-directed mutagenesis, protein surface biotinylation followed by Western blotting, immunofluorescence labeling followed by confocal microscopy imaging, and computational chemical modeling. Dr. Bukiya’s team is rapidly growing, with several other projects being funded or developed for future funding. Dr. Bukiya’s lab collaborations include Department of Pharmacology, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Department of Comparative Medicine at UTHSC, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Qualifications: Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in physiology, pharmacology, biophysics or closely related field. The preference will be given to a candidate with recent graduation date (no more than 1-2 years of postdoctoral experience). The applicant must have a strong background in electrophysiology (patch-clamp or two-electrode voltage-clamp), knowledge of potassium channel physiology and pharmacology is a plus. Successful candidate will be primarily responsible for patch-clamp data acquisition to record BK channel activity in patches from cerebral artery myocytes and Xenopus laevis oocytes, and cerebral artery diameter determination in vitro. Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and based on the prevailing wage for postdoctoral research trainees set by the U.S. Department of Labor.
