We have an opening for a full-time post-doctoral fellow to carry out research in targeting atherosclerosis and type-2 diabetes through activatable nanoparticles and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), http://grantome.com/grant/NIH/R01-HL130516-01A1 The position is available immediately and is available for up to three years. NIH-sponsored project will be conducted at Case Western Reserve University and Cardiovascular Research Institute (http://www.case.edu/cvri/), a premier research institute that houses laboratories performing cutting edge basic and translational research in vascular biology, diabetes and metabolism, and has ample access to superb core facilities such as small animal imaging (PET-CT, high-field MRI, cryo-imaging), imaging flow-cytometry, metabolomics, mass-spectrometry and high throughput screening. The project will commence in the laboratory of Dr. Andrei Maiseyeu (www.maiseyeulab.xyz) and will design novel strategies for imaging and drug delivery in cardiovascular and metabolic disease (type-2 diabetes, obesity) through GLP-1 receptor activation. Dr. Maiseyeu’s laboratory is seeking motivated candidates that have interest in studying mechanisms of metabolic disease through the use of novel technologies. The work in the laboratory will encompass projects ranging from investigation of basic molecular, cellular and metabolic processes involved in the development of the disease to imaging and therapy using novel GLP-1-containing nanoparticle agents. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence, initiative, and creativity, and will have strong background in immunology, metabolic disease (atherosclerosis, diabetes, obesity), and cardiovascular physiology. The candidate must have received a Ph.D. degree in chemistry/ biochemistry/ cell biology/ material science, or equivalent and have experience with mouse models of atherosclerosis, primary cell culture techniques, immunohistochemistry, and standard molecular biology methods (RT-PCR, ELISA, gel electrophoresis, HPLC-FPLC). The selected candidate will be expected to have interest in applying for an external funding support. Prior post-doctoral research experience neither required nor desired. The successful candidate must have strong analytical, oral and written communication skills. |
