The National Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry Imaging (NiCE-MSI) is a world-leading centre. We innovate and advance measurement capability to tackle some of society’s most important challenges including cancer, anti-microbial resistance as well as improving drug efficacy and reducing attrition. NiCE-MSI is a large and multi-disciplinary team with a significant cohort of PhD students.
A position is available in the NiCE-MSI to undertake research into laser-post ionisation and other methods to enhance ionisation in surface mass spectrometry. Integration of this technology into the 3D OrbiSIMS (a unique hybrid ToF-Orbitrap instrument) will be a key duty.
The successful candidate will have a research background in laser physics. The candidate is expected to work creatively and independently to solve problems and have excellent communication and team-working skills.
The position would suit high-calibre physical science graduates with post-doctoral experience in an appropriate field.
This research will be undertaken in close collaboration with experts at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the role will involve travel and extended stays in the USA.
This role is initially for a period of 3 years.
