We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the laboratory of Dr. Nipun Merchant in the Department of Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The laboratory is focused on biological discoveries that have the potential to lead into novel therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer. The main focus will be to carry out novel research on the role of the tumor microenvironment on the therapeutic resistance of pancreatic cancer. The successful candidate will be an active participant in a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere. Duties include, but are not limited to conceiving and execution of experiments, generation and data analysis, assembly and presentation of figures, maintaining a current knowledge of the literature, writing of manuscripts and grant applications, participation in laboratory meetings, partial supervision of research assistants and/or students, lab organization, maintenance of laboratory supplies, presenting seminars and other forms of research communication.
This individual will take a multidisciplinary approach to designing and implementing experiments to understand the basic mechanisms of tumorigenesis, which will include the use of biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, proteomics, genomics, animal modeling and mouse genetics, and/or the use of human tumor xenograft models. A prior experience with mouse models, cell signaling and cancer biology will be an asset. Experimental bench science is an essential requirement, as well as the ability to present and discuss data. It is expected that the post-doctoral associate will also apply for extramural funding.
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. in a life science discipline such as Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cancer Biology, or Cell Biology or M.D. Ability to successfully spearhead a research project. Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and goal oriented. Prefer candidates that have a strong track record of publications. Must be highly organized, possess strong verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Prefer at least two years of basic laboratory research experience.
