Postdoctoral position in Organic Chemist: Gothenburg, Sweden

　　Information about the research/the project/the division

　　In a future society with limited access to fossil fuels, technologies for efficient on demand delivery of renewable energy are highly desirable. In this regard, methods that allow for solar energy storage and on demand solar driven power generation are particularly relevant since the sun is the most abundant energy source.

　　In this project we work with organic synthesis of two classes of molecules intended for solar energy applications. One class of molecules seeks to extend and improve the concept of molecular solar thermal energy storage (MOST). Another class of molecules is intended for photon up-conversion (TTA-UC). The molecules will be evaluated in lab scale test devices through collaborations with other group members.

　　All target molecules in the project are aromatic molecules with tailored properties for the applications.

　　Major responsibilities

　　The Post Doc will work with design, synthesis and characterization of new molecules for molecular solar thermal (MOST) and triplet triplet annihilation photon up conversion (TTA-UC)

　　Key parts of the work will be related to:

　　• Design and Synthesis of functional molecules.

　　• Characterization using NMR/MS/IR/UV-vis/fluorescence spectroscopy.

　　• Development of scalable procedures for (multi)gram synthesis of key molecules using batch and flow chemistry techniques.

　　Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

　　Position summary

　　Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

　　Qualifications

　　To qualify as a Post Doc, you must have a PhD degree in Chemistry (the degree should generally not be older than three years), and hands on experience with design and synthesis of new organic compounds through multistep syntheis. The right candidate is highly motivated and have an interest in developing new synthetic routes using both traditional batch type reactions as modern synthetic tools such as flow chemistry reactors, microwave synthesis and photochemical reactions. Knowledge of basic photochemical charactarisation (UV-vis/fluorescence) is a merit.

　　Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the work, the candidate is expected to have good collaboration skills, being able to deliver within deadlines, and to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
