　　Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

　　We seek a postdoctoral scientist to work with Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian on a Wellcome Trust-funded programme to investigate the epigenetic role of nucleic acid base modifications. This is an interdisciplinary project that encompasses chemical biology and molecular biology and genomics. Seehttps://www.balasubramanian.co.uk/ for further information.

　　We look to appoint a molecular biologist or biochemist to carry out research on how chemically modified bases affect the structure and function of DNA. The investigations will involve a consideration of the chemistry and enzymology of modified bases, protein-DNA interactions, chromatin structure and transcription. We aim to manipulate the epigenetic states of systems as part of our studies. This will enable us to gain a deeper understanding of the function of base modifications and their involvement in regulating gene expression in normal and disease states using cellular models from human, and mouse and parasite models.

　　The successful candidate will have a capacity for innovation and creativity. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team will be important. Experience in working in an interdisciplinary environment, particularly with chemists/chemical biologists would be an advantage.

　　Candidates should have (or be about to receive) a PhD in a relevant discipline.
