　　Center for Music in the Brain at Department of Clinical Medicin at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor/Postdoc in the field of Neuroscience as soon as possible. The position is a full-time position and will end at 31 May 2021.

　　Department of Clinical Medicine

　　As an assistant professor/postdoc at the Department of Clinical Medicine you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.

　　Center for Music in the Brain

　　MIB is headed by Professor Peter Vuust and the center is organized around four research topics: Perception, Action, Emotion and Learning.

　　The research in the center is based on the predictive coding of music hypothesis proposing that music reflects fundamental brain mechanisms associated with prediction. This hypothesis offers a fresh perspective on how specialized brain networks can identify and categorize causes of sensory inputs, integrate information with other networks, and adapt to new stimuli. It proposes that perception and learning occurs in a recursive Bayesian process by which the brain tries to minimize the error between the input and the brain’s expectation.

　　MIB is situated in the Danish Neuroscience Center at Health, AU allowing close interactions with clinicians, medical scientists and patient groups. This gives access to MINDLab Core Experimental Facility with an impressive infrastructure providing an array of state-of-the-art technologies (PET, MRI, fMRI, MEG, EEG, tDCS, and TMS), and extensive support. MIB is also affiliated with the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg’s (RAMA) music teaching programs of the highest national and international levels, training students as professional musicians and high-level music teachers.

　　Your job responsibilities

　　As Assistant Professor/postdoc in Neuroscience your primary task will be research. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.

　　The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

　　In the position as a postdoc you will receive supervision and guidance.

　　Your main tasks will consist of:

　　·         Independent research of high international quality, including publication.

　　·         Guidance or supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.

　　·         Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding

　　You will report to the Director of Center for Music in the Brain

　　Your competences

　　You have completed a PhD in the field of neuroscience, engineering, mathematics, medicine, psychology, music, or other relevant education.

　　You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator and you have some degree of experience of supervision at Bachelor’s and Master’s degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations.

　　We expect you to have experience with neuroimaging acquisition and analysis (DTI, fMRI, MEG, EEG) as well as expertise in advanced statistical analysis of neuroimaging data modalities. Experience with computer programming (e.g. Matlab), connectivity analysis and psychological testing will be a plus.

　　You have a strong interest in music. You have good interpersonal skills, are friendly and helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.

　　We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.
