Position Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated Post-Doctoral researcher, with strong communication skills, to join our team in the Department of General Practice, UCC. The successful candidate will work on a Health Research Board Applied Partnership Award project, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Prof Tony Foley. The multidisciplinary project team includes clinicians, researchers, PPI partners and policymakers.

Dementia care is a global health priority. Dementia remains under-diagnosed with less than 50% of those living with dementia ever receiving a diagnosis. Research has highlighted significant diagnostic challenges, including the communication pathway between general practice and secondary care.

We aim to develop an evidence-informed guideline and template for referring patients with suspected cognitive impairment or dementia from general practice to secondary care.

Our programme of research will consist of a scoping review of the literature, a Delphi consensus study and the development, user-testing and evaluation of a novel dementia referral form. The finalised referral form will be incorporated onto GPs' practice software systems nationally.

This project requires a Post-Doctoral researcher with experience in evidence synthesis and qualitative and quantitative research methods. The Post-Doctoral researcher will act as both the project manager and research coordinator. Their role is to support the PI in the day-to-day project activity, coordinating activity across work packages, monitoring and producing project deliverables. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong organizational, planning, oral and written communication skills, scientific writing and project management skills
